This collaborative project was completed for a sustainable materials class. The goal was to design a product that used sustainable materials. For this we did research on different types of materials, considered all aspects of the manufacturing including end of life and shipping, as well as think about what other similar products were currently on the market.
The product we came up with was a line of stuffed animals made out of materials that would let this product eventually biodegrade. Many stuffed animals on the market use polyester and acrylic materials that are harmful to produce and take a very long time to break down after the end of life.
We chose to also have the toys serve as an educational tool for the children so each of the animals are on the endangered list and come with a book that teaches children about the animal and their natural habitats.
Other elements of this project included creating a business model for how these toys would be sold, the target audience, designing the packaging, and researching what to include and write about in the book that came with the animal. This project was completed with Elizabeth McClain, Mary Fedele, Luisa Solano, and Emma Rosenberg. For more information or for a look at the full process work feel free to contact me!
